The Basics

Troop 112
Where the Scouts lead and the fun follows.

Founded on March 1, 1941, Troop 112 is one of the oldest Scouts BSA Troops in Hamilton County. We are also the first Troop in Carmel to offer the Scouts BSA experience to both boys and girls. Along the way, we’ve helped hundreds of these young adults become Eagle Scouts. Last year, we had 18 earn the rank, but most years we average about 8.

While it takes a lot of hard work and determination to become an Eagle Scout, at Troop 112 we make sure there are lots of fun moments and unforgettable experiences on the path, too. Experiences like zip lining, canoeing, rock climbing, caving, backpacking, biking, skiing, learning how to fly airplanes, and shooting shotguns and rifles.

We truly are a Scout-led troop. What does that mean? If you come to one of our Troop meetings, campouts or outings you’ll know. You’ll see the older Scouts leading and teaching the younger Scouts. The Scouts, under the guidance of the Scoutmaster, decide on the activities. Then the older Scouts run the program. The adult leaders offer support, encouragement and ever watchful eyes to make sure everyone stays safe and has a good time. Our roster today is about 80 Scouts.

A typical month for us includes three Troop meetings and one campout or field trip. We meet on Monday nights at 7 p.m. On the first Monday of the month, we meet at University High School on West 116th Street, across from West Park. The other two meetings of the month are held at our chartered organization, the Carmel Lions Club, on Main Street in downtown Carmel. We don’t meet on Mondays following a campout so make sure to check our activities calendar at before planning a visit.

Any boy or girl in the Carmel area, regardless of race, religion, or creed may join our Troop. And while we schedule special Webelos nights in the fall, you are more than welcome to visit any meeting.

To schedule a visit, please contact our membership coordinator, Dale Hamann, at 317-650-0853 or He’ll also be happy to answer any questions you have about the Troop and how it functions.
